I didn’t get much reading done this month but the stack is not insignificant.
June is going to be a busy month for me. It started with my best friend’s wedding, which was really lovely. The month will be filled with baby showers, high school graduations, some travel, and hopefully some reading.
The photo is mildly misleading. I did read The Summer Hikaru Died, but only volumes 1 and 2. I’m still waiting for the 3rd volume to come from the library so it’s not finished in my StoryGraph log (as I log every 3 volumes of the manga I read).
Here is a link to the month’s playlist over on Bookshop.
The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish (Vol. 1) by Xue Shan Fei Hu
I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book. What I was looking for was a fun, light read and that’s exactly what I got. The main character was funny, the shenanigans with the plot were light but still held weight, and the developing romance was surprisingly sweet.
Love, Laugh, Lich by Kate Prior
This read came at the heels of a TikTok video I watched dissecting aspects of the romance genre. The person in the video (I’ve since lost it, of course) talked about a passage from this book where our main character thinks about how her feelings for the male love interest did not depend on a physical manifestation of his body. It was interesting so I downloaded it from Libby to read. Overall, it’s an okay book. The ending was rushed and not as much development as I would have liked but the novella set up much worldbuilding and characters in its roughly 80 pages.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Vol. 7-10) by Kanehito Yamada, Tsukasa Abe
I’ve made it to the end of volumes that my library has. What a good series. The action is easy to follow, the art is beautiful, and I love the characters and their interactions with each other.
